Hair Care

Hey girls! I don't know about where you guys live, but in my home town, the weather is getting warmer. Summer feels like it's just around the corner... Which is obviously very exciting, but we all know that with warmer weather comes humidity, and with humidity comes frizzy, unmanageable hair! But fret no more because I have the perfect hot weather solutions for your hair, regardless of your hair type, texture, or length!

Curly/Wavy: We curly girls have natural volume and texture, which is awesome, but we are also more prone to frizz than other hair types are. To smooth your locks during warm or humid weather, make sure you apply leave-in conditioner or an anti-frizz spray after showering. Two hairstyles that look great during the summer are beachy waves and a high top knot. To achieve the perfect beachy waves, brush out your wet hair to loosen the curls and finger-comb a dollop of mousse through your waves. Gently blow dry with a diffuser to get that tousled, ready-for-the-beach look. For the high top knot, brush the snarls out of your hair, tip your head over, and gather all of your curls into your palms at the top of your head. Secure the hair into a high ponytail and twist it into a cute little bun. Secure with bobby pins or another hair tie. Add a cute headband to dress it up! This hairstyle keeps you cool because your hair will be off your neck.

Straight: Although they don't have as much frizz, straight haired girls still have the issue of coming up with creative ideas for their hair. Two cute summer styles for straight hair are half up-half down and the invisible ponytail. For half up-half down, use a comb to take the two sections of your hair that frame your face and separate them from the rest of your hair. Now, you can either braid or twist each of these sections before pinning or clipping them together at the back of your head. Add a hair bow or a fun barrette to dress it up! The invisible ponytail is the easiest thing ever. Brush your hair into a ponytail, it can be high or low, whichever you prefer. Take a small section of the ponytail and wrap it around the base of your ponytail until you can no longer see the elastic. Secure with a bobby pin. This is just a more stylish and grown-up version of a basic ponytail! Both of these styles are great for keeping your hair out of your face in the heat.

Long: Long hair is so beautiful, but it can be a real pain in the neck when it gets hot out. Literally. To keep cool during the summer months, try a reverse side braid. This is almost as easy as the invisible ponytail! A reverse braid is nearly the same thing as a regular braid, only instead of braiding the pieces of hair over one another, you braid them under one another. Gather all of your hair to one side of your head and braid over your shoulder when you do this.

Short: Short-haired girls have it the easiest in the summer time! A cute style for shorter hair is just to add hair accessories. If you find that your bangs keep falling in your face, use rhinestoned bobby pins or a wide grosgrain headband. Bows are always adorable too! You can experiment with braiding your bangs, or pulling all of your hair back into a cute mini ponytail.

Swimsuit Shop

Hi guys!

Today I'd like to share some swimsuits I've been loving. My dilemma with swimsuits is that I find the good, classy looking ones to be very expensive and the cheap ones to be a bit trashy. I think the purpose of wearing a swimsuit should be to tan or swim and not to show off anything. I like classic, retro-looking swimsuits but also ones that are unique because everyone seems to have the same swimsuit these days - and I love standing out!

I've came up with a collection of suits of all price ranges that will make you the best-dressed girl at the pool or beach!

For the more expensive....

I love the colors in this floral bandeau twist tank from J. Crew. The strapless factor offsets the covered-up idea of a one-piece.

I have ALWAYS loved this J. Crew seersucker banded underwire tank. The lavender is feminine and would look good on softer skin tones like myself. The underwire and light color make it more feminine.

This polka dot underwire top with high waisted bottoms is too cute! The polka dots are really fun, and the high waist gives it a unique, retro edge.

For prices in the middle of the road....

This periwinkle scalloped top from Topshop is simply adorable. Gotta love the periwinkle!

I love this blue striped longline bikini because the extra band gives it more of an edge, but the cute bow still makes it feminine.

This pink and blue striped underwire bikini looks like something totally Tumblr-worthy! It would be perfect for the Fourth of July, and the faded colors makes it look more vintage.

If you're on a budget....

This one-piece is timeless, simple, and classic.

This one is just so fun and adorable! I love the ruffles on the bottom.
I like how this has good coverage in the chest area, but the ruffles also accentuate it. The floral watercolor pattern is so pretty, too.

(These ones are all from Target and can all be found here.)

Writing this post was actually quite helpful to me- now I know where I'm getting some new swimsuits for this summer!

Where do you usually shop for swimsuits?

Summer Bucket List

Heyyy Chit Chat readers!

It's Signe writing today!

For my "free post" this month, I'd thought I'd share 20 things (not in a particular order) I really really hope to do this summer. Some of these things are goals, some of these things are just what I want to do for fun. So it's a "summer bucket list," if you will. :)

1. Finish recording my album of songs
2. Take a picture of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Instagram it
3. Read some classic novels
4. Help my sister redesign her room
5. Take my cat for a walk on the street
6. Get a pet fish
7. Go to the beach by myself
8. Buy some art supplies and paint
9. Make some cheesecake
10. Have a photoshoot in a field
11. Put some of my music online
12. Pass the summer class I'm taking
13. Make friendship bracelets for my friends
14. Dye my hair (Maybe. Nothing drastic.)
15. Eat a crepe in France
16. Go to various art museums
17. Go to a thrift shop
18. Make another music video
19. Allow my friend to paint my nails
20. Attend an event that requires a fancy dress

What's on your summer bucket list?

Random DIY :: Hair Ties

I found this cool DIY Youtube tutorial video made by teenmakeuptips on how to make hair ties.  They’re super easy and fun to make. J Hair ties are great for your hair, bracelets, etc.  You can also make them longer for headbands.  It’s also much cheaper to make them vs. to buy them online or at the store.  If you make this week’s Random DIY make sure you post a picture on our Twitter page or send us it to us in an email at chitchattheblog@gmail.com

Easy Summer Makeup

I’m not the only girl who wears makeup on a fairly regular basis. Spring make-up is transition make up, fall is introducing dark colors and winter is all about the dark colors, but what about summer? It is when your legs are tan {most of us} and the sun is hot what do you do for your makeup? I can’t stand when my makeup sweats off, so I came up with all that I need to get by.

Easy Summer Makeup

1. No matter what the weather I need a base. Whoever created BB Cream is a genius. BB cream is a moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation and is lightweight all in a simple application! I love how it doesn’t melt off and stays in place all day.
 2. This Neutrogena double set contains a blush and bronzer. Both give off a nice light glow perfect for completing your makeup.
 3. I don’t normally wear mascara except for nicer occasions due to smudging. Recently I discovered waterproof mascara because it doesn’t move at all.
 4. Any duo in the summer works for me! I love balm stains, they are moisturizing yet the color lasts all day.

What are your make-up musts for summer?

Random Styling :: Patterned Shorts

I was inspired by these AMAZING patterned shorts from Madwell’s that I couldn’t get enough of. Last week I was browsing J.Crew’s website and found even more patterned shorts, falling head over heels in love with them. Plus, I own a red eyelet pair of shorts from Target that I've been wearing nonstop. Obviously if I’m so in love I have to share... right?
Patterned Shorts: Day at the beach

This outfit was inspired by a fun day at the beach. Right now (for me) the beach is super windy making bathing suits not too fun and surfing difficult. So I wear a lightweight button down with some chic, comfy shorts and you can find me lying out with some fabulous reads. Also, these were the Madewell shorts that inspired this post #LOVE!

Patterned Shorts: Sail away with me

Last week I got my sailing license (my certificate to operate a sailboat) and that inspired this outfit. The striped shorts are tres chic with the gold detailing. For something casual it looks extremely put together!

Patterned Shorts: Fun Brunch

This outfit is all of my favorite things. The J.Crew painter shirt fits me perfectly, I am obsessed with anchors, pink bows, monograms, bows.

What’s not to love? How do y’all style patterned shorts?

Keeping Cool in Hot Weather

I can’t believe it is finally May! I have about one month of school left (ugh), so I don’t get to lay out all month like most people (wah). However, I can get my tan on every weekend! Be careful though, you need to stay hydrated while in the scorching sun!

Drink Water | This is the easiest and one of the best ways to keep your body hydrated! Keep your cute monogrammed bottle beside your lawn chair! That’s also the bonus of this, there are so many water bottle options to show your own unique style!

Take a Dip | Whether you are at the pool or at the beach, it won’t hurt to get wet! To make it a little more exciting; purchase an underwater camera! I purchased one and my friends love it. Honestly, we take the dumbest pictures under water. Mainly because you are underwater…

Eat your fruits | I know it sounds kinda crazy. I don’t eat healthy at all. I rarely eat fruit and vegetables. I love this aspect of the summer! In the summer, I love eating pineapple and watermelon. Strawberries are great in the spring!

How do you keep hydrated?
