Book Review :: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

I never actually thought I’d see the day when I appreciated school reading. It is probably the most tedious thing out there and it takes far too much of my time. Now after reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, my view on school books actually has shifted {not a lot though!}. While it was not the lightest read it was just so good! While some parts lagged in the action category, I am a huge history fan so it made up for it. The ending was so sad and had me in tears, which I interpret to mean that it was a really good book.

The publisher describes it as:
When Bruno returns home from school one day, he discovers that his belongings are being packed in crates. His father has received a promotion and the family must move from their home to a new house far far away, where there is no one to play with and nothing to do. A tall fence running alongside stretches as far as the eye can see and cuts him off from the strange people he can see in the distance. But Bruno longs to be an explorer and decides that there must be more to this desolate new place than meets the eye. While exploring his new environment, he meets another boy whose life and circumstances are very different to his own, and their meeting results in a friendship that has devastating consequences.
The whole book revolves around an unlikely friendship {think Romeo and Juliet like} that is also full of history. There is also a movie of it but I am not sure if I’m ready to cry that much.

  1. I love this book so much! For once, though, I think the movie is actually better than the book! It's absolutely heartbreaking!
